What are your plans for following Jesus more closely this Lent?

Here are some ideas. See the bulletin & parish website for more details on these and other opportunities in our area:

Mass: join us for daily Mass on Tuesday evenings at 6:00pm or on Thursday and Saturday mornings at 8:30am.

Stations of the Cross: Lenten Fridays at 6:00pm through Mar. 23 for the traditional commemoration of the Lord’s Passion.

Adoration: give it a try! Blessed Sacrament is exposed in the Adoration Chapel from Tuesday evening through Saturday morning.

Lectio Divina: Fr. Michael will guide us in this ancient form of prayer with the Scriptures. Fridays at 5pm: Feb. 23, Mar. 2 & 9.

Parish Mission: Norbertine Fr. Paschal Nguyen will lead us in a Lenten Mission Mar. 19-22, two conferences per day.

Sacrament of Reconciliation:  Every Tuesday, 5:00-5:45pm, and Saturday, 9:00-9:45am & 3:30-4:30pm at St. Thomas.
Special Reconciliation Services at neighboring parishes: see the Liturgy Schedule for Lent

Women’s Scripture Reflection & Social: bring a friend Saturday, Feb. 24, 6-8pm in the Fireside Room to reflect on the restoring words of Scripture and to encourage one another.

Bible Study: a 7-week study on Lenten themes begins Feb. 14 after the 8:30am Mass in the Fireside Room; continues Wed. at 10am.

ENDOW: women's weekly study group meets Mondays at 7:00pm; current study is on Pope Benedict XVI's God is Love

Rosary: the Fatima Centennial reminded us all of the value of this   prayer focused on the Life of Christ.

Free Lenten Email Meditations: do you like a little gift in your inbox each morning? Three great online resources offer them; visit their website to check it out and to sign up:

 - Dynamic Catholic -

 - Word on Fire -

- -

(free access to using parish code 3FRM2C)

Personal Prayer: the essential ingredient in the transformation we all seek during Lent. If you do nothing else, make time for a few minutes every day to listen to the Lord.

Rice Bowl: support Catholic Relief Services with your Rice Bowl donations during Lent and return it on Holy Thursday. Visit for great Lenten resources.

SVdP: volunteer to assist St. Vincent de Paul with their work to help the needy in our area. Training & a sustained commitment needed.

40 Days for Life: join this prayerful vigil in support of Life. Find local campaign info at

WHO Shelter: support the Winter Hospitality Overflow site in Vancouver during our parish’s week to volunteer, Mar. 5-11.

RCIA:  invite a neighbor, coworker, relative or friend to explore the  Catholic Church, or to come home if they have been away.

Soup Suppers: join us Lenten Fridays after Stations of the Cross for a simple meal with your neighbors.

Social Media/Screen Time: what would happen if we just turned it off…it's very likely we will all survive with less noise.

Snacks/Desserts: the traditional and simple way we can train our   stubborn will to do what it does not want to do.

Gossip:  another habit to limit.

Shopping:  sure, we might want it...but do we really need it?  Another classic way to train our will.

Ash Wednesday, while not a Holy Day of Obligation, is a day of fasting and abstinence.

Fasting:  Catholics aged 18-59 fast on Ash Wednesday and on Good Friday by reducing the amount of food eaten from normal. Church guidance is to eat just one full meal on those days (and up to two smaller meals which if added together would not exceed a full meal); no snacks!

Abstinence:  Catholics aged 14 and older abstain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday and on all Fridays of Lent.

Our parish faith formation focus this year will be on the Domestic Church. Stay tuned for more information and suggestions for how to consciously develop an awareness of this key Catholic idea in your home this year.

Additional assistant catechists are still needed in
Middle School & High School

We can use your love of The Faith in the classroom this year as a  catechist in our faith formation program on Sunday mornings.

We have many returning catechists to show you the ropes.  You can also volunteer as an assistant or as an occasional substitute, both of which are very helpful as well.  More details online or contact Ted Meany for more information at or 360-834-2126, ext. 215.
