St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Camas, WA, is seeking a part-time Music Program Coordinator. 

SCOPE: Music 

POSITION PURPOSE:  This position aims to provide music for parish liturgies and other designated celebrations by utilizing and organizing parish resources to support the ongoing success of various music programs at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Collaborates with the pastor and other staff in implementing the mission of the parish.  This is accomplished by participating in the comprehensive planning, implementing, and evaluation of the parish’s programs, goals, and objectives, with specific focus on music.   
  2. Develops and manages the music ministry for the parish.  
    1. Directs the parish choir. Recruits, trains, and supports cantors, song leaders, and choral groups.  Responsible for scheduling practices and assuring accompanists and music are available. Coordinates children’s choir, rehearsals, performances.  
    2. Recruits and schedules musicians for all Sunday Masses, Funeral Masses, Weddings, Parish Events, and other liturgical celebrations.  
      1. Coordinates music for other liturgical events, including solemnity and feast day enrichment for St. Joseph, All Saints, Our Lady of Guadalupe, and other important feasts throughout the year.  
    3. Facilitates the participation of the parish community in singing at liturgical celebrations.  Selects and develops participation aids for the congregation, and provides opportunities for congregation to participate through singing. 
    4. Develops and maintains resource lists for organists, soloists, and other musicians available to perform at all liturgical functions. 
    5. Ensures that adequate materials for worship related to music are available, such as hymnals or handouts. 
  3. Maintains a level of knowledge and skills required for administering a Catholic music ministry.   
    1. Collaborates with the Priest Administrator to select appropriate sacred music for all sacramental celebrations and liturgies as indicated in church documents.  
    2. Ensures appropriate copyright permissions, use fees and licenses have been obtained for all material used in the music program. 
    3. Partners with facilities maintenance staff and administrative staff to resolve equipment issues, and keep the parishes sound systems and music equipment fully functional.  
    4. Partners with Pastoral Leader and key administrative staff to ensure the monthly monitoring of expenses and authorization of all expenditures for the music program budget. 
  4. The Pastoral Assistant for Music also participates in regional, Archdiocesan and National Professional organizations, as approved and as appropriate. 
  5. Participates in Archdiocesan or Parish Projects as necessary.  
  6. Works within parish budget, policies, and procedures as well as appropriate Archdiocesan Guidelines.  
  7. Performs other duties as assigned. 
 

The successful candidate will be an active and practicing Catholic, 

  1. Strong Musical background  
  2. Experience organizing and directing choir groups 
  3. Familiarity with the Roman Catholic order of the Mass and be comfortable with various styles of music for the various masses including chant for the Latin Mass.  
  4. Ability to recruit, train, and nurture volunteer musicians and vocalists.
  5. Excellent technological, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  6. Must be available for weekend Masses, holy days, evening rehearsals, weddings and funerals.

The Proto-Cathedral of St. James the Greater (218 West 13th Street in Vancouver) is seeking enthusiastic and experienced individuals to join the parish staff.  All positions require a successful pre-employment background check and completion of Safe Environment training.  We offer the following positions to serve this historic Catholic community of 550+ households in downtown Vancouver.

 

Liturgical Support:  This part-time (15 hours/week) position will support the Pastor in his celebration of sacred liturgies.  Duties and responsibilities will include opening the parish campus for weekend and special liturgical celebrations, assuring set up of the church environment, assisting parishioners planning weddings and funerals, reviewing the inventory of liturgical supplies and securing the campus.   

Music Director:  This part-time (15 hours/week) position will support the Pastor by assuring music for all parish liturgies and other designated liturgical celebrations.  Duties and responsibilities will include assuring music for all parish liturgies and designated liturgical celebrations; recruiting, scheduling and directing cantors and musicians; assuring appropriate music for weddings and funerals; and assisting parishioners needing music for those celebrations. Experience as a pipe-organist preferred but not required.   

Organist:  This position will accompany and support the congregation as it sings in worship at its weekend services; this position could be combined with the Music Director position above.  3-5 years experience required.
